dEVa Ride Sat June 20th

We are back on track with dEVa rides on Saturday after the little hiatus at Enumclaw. We are going to work on team time trialing this week. I would like to head to the North Shore for a longer ride to horseshoe bay and cypress, with some team time trialing along the highway to cypress. See you at Calhouns tomorrow morning.

Thursday Night Racing Ladies!

Come on ladies, come join me racing tonight in Richmond at the Thursday Nighters! We need more women out racing, and we really need some dEVa presence!

I will be leaving Main and Ontario at 515 at the latest. Claire TT'd me out to the race in time for last week!

Its a super fun course, flat and fast! And getting out there on time is not only a great warm up but part of the race for us Cat 4's!

oh and not that you need more convincing but you should know that it's been common to win bags of licorice for the prime. This is what last week's winner did with her prize.

Below is more info.

See you out there!
Liisa

Team Coastal is proud to present a criterium race series held every Thursday night from May through August. The races are centrally located in Richmond and offer great competition for all levels of competitive cyclists. The 1.8 km flat course will provide an excellent opportunity for up and coming racers to train and refine their racing skills.

Notification of Race Cancellation
Please Note If it is raining the races will be cancelled for that evening. We will update the web site home page by about 4pm on race day if we decide to cancel.

Wet roads are OK but we don't want our volunteers standing in the rain. Check the link below for current local weather... look for the Richmond area. Lots of color means lots of rain and the Thursday Night Challenge race is probably cancelled. Local Weather Radar

Westside Classic

The women’s race took a while to shape up with a small move just holding a 10 second lead for a number of early laps. The Queen of the Mountain competition started to heat things up with the ladies fighting it out for the $250. Jean Ann McKirdy from the Local Ride team took the prize and helped form the winning move, which included her teammate Laura Brown, Naomi Cooper (dEVO), Kristine Brynjolfson (Westwood Cycle/Cannondale). Lisa Howard (Escape Velocity) and Marie Claude Gagnon (Glotman Simpson) were just dangling off the back of this move. When the group passed the Finish with two laps to go it was clear the winner would come from the lead four. Coming in to the finish straight Laura Brown took advantage of some great teamwork and came through with the win. Naomi Cooper was second ahead Bryjolfson, McKirdy and Howard made up the top five.

Nice work Coach Howard! The dEVa's are proud of ya baby!

Enumclaw race report # 1

The time trial. They call it the race of truth, but really it’s a test to see how deep you are willing to go. The dEVas did well in the race against the clock, as it was a first for almost all of the squad. Their first time in a standing start, first time on the course, and a their first 10km of nothing but their thoughts, pounding heart beats, deafening breathing and rising lactic acid.

For me, it was the first time I would really lay down the hammer on the TT bike I bought last summer (a bike with two national championships already on its resume) and an aero helmet I borrowed from a friend. I knew the bike liked to fly, but honestly most of the race is a blur corners, pain and a constant stream of both positive, but mostly negative thoughts. After telling myself to settle and find a rhythm the first few minutes, zooming past the girl in front of me, surviving the pop of a hill Gord said was half way (remembering that saved my race!), succumbing and overcoming a long moment of mental weakness before the last corner, I crossed the line annoyed knowing that I could have gone harder and still feeling pretty good on my gel infused sugar high (Ask the dEVas how hard I sugar crashed about 20 minutes later!).

I had no idea how I had done, since I had forgotten to look at my bike computer’s clock. As I walked up to see the finish times several hours later, Liisa’s high five and “way to rock it girl!” hinted that I had must have met my goal of finishing top 15.

In the end, I dug deep enough to finish 1st in the Women’s Cat 4 with a time of 16:10. Conquering their firsts and without the fancy aero machinery, Jen Brummit came it at 19:20, Monika Owczarek finished at 19:03, Jo Hallas crossed at 18:47, Liisa Ingimundson sailed in at 17:43, and our power house mentor/role model/coach/superstar Lisa Howard finished 8th in the womens 1 /2 with a time of 15:25. What a way to kick off the weekend!

Enumclaw! Grrr!!

I forgot to post that there would be no separate dEVa ride on Saturday as Lisa and I along with some of the dEVa riders would be down in the US racing. We had a great time and and kicked some butt. Posts of the Time Trial, Crit and Road Races will follow soon along with photos.
