Liisa's race report and Cypress Climb

So today, Jo and I set off to ride out to Horseshoe Bay and then climb Cypress in the name of getting ready for next weekend's racing in Enumclaw.
First thing I would like to state for the record is that our Jo is a Gazelle on the mountain climbs! There was no way I was going to stay on her wheel climbing up this beautiful mountain! So dEVa's remember to position Jo to win on any finish line at the top of a climb!

Aside from stopping to text Jeni to see how she how she did in the Crit today we made good time up the mountain and of course great time DOWN it! Wheeeeee!!!

And as far as my race report from saturday's road race, it too was small field of 5 women for Cat 4. We had the same aforementioned triathlete and Glotman Simpson rider and our own dEVo's Camille, plus one other racer.

The tri gal, jumped at the gun and raced up to the cat 5 men and hopped on their pack but then was told that she couldn't ride with them and so finished the race alone. Our GS racer mentioned that she chased down the first girl for a while and then ended up working with some 5 men that had dropped off the back of their pack, (she did mention she pulled alot...)
and that left myself, Camille and this other racer working together and ulimatley vie'ing for 3rd. Camille and I worked together seeing that our 3rd was a great climber but that we were stronger and most likely could out sprint her. So we did our best to take turns pulling and then when we were on our final stretch we said SEE YA to our climber and Cam and I sprinted it out to the finish line where our amazing dEVo young lady beat be by inch! Nice work Camille! Now I hope Jeff Ain is shaking a little in his boots cause if we can steal over to the dEVa's we will!!

It was a beautiful course, and a shame there wasn't more ladies out there to race. And CONGRATS to our fearless leader Lisa Howard who took 2nd for the Cat 1,2 3 women! I saw her racing always at the front of the pack as they passed by and had a great position.

Look out Washington, the dEVa's are coming to get ya!

Jeni's race report of the Tom Binnie Crit

What do you do when a sponsored elite triathlete shows up at a bike race? You try to hang on her wheel until you hit that zone just before you’re done, then you let her go so you can have your own race and wonder if she’ll lap you…

Thus was the beginning of the Tom Binnie Women’s Cat 4 Criterium. With only 4 riders total it became a tactical race when the triathlete rode off into the sunset after creating ten minutes of soul breaking hell for the rest of us. Crawling out of hell and into a bike race you then do you’re share of pulls, take your rests, and spend the entire race sizing each other up.

Going into the group prime I ended up in front on the backside of the course. Still, despite having to attack off the front, my strong sprint won the prime by half a wheel. However, I didn’t see our dEVo delight Camille coming up hard on my right and only a last second shove of the bike scored the prize of trail running socks!
And then it was back to tactics. A few attacks by our Glockman-Simpson competition was an attempt to find weaknesses, but without burning matches our dEVo/dEVa double team easily chased her down each time.

With two laps to go I was on the front again. Riding well into the corners I looked back and the other two were somehow 10 meters off my wheel. They did not catch back on as we crossed the line going into the final lap so of course the only tactical thing to do was attack then and there! A move that led to a solo finish to take overall second and positioned dEVo Camille perfectly for the final sprint to grab third.

Saturday Ride May 16th

Weather this Saturday is suppose to be okay and with tuesday and thursday nights just started i thought a Race Simulation session on our group ride would be beneficial. We need lots or riders for our drills to work so come out and hope the 40% chance of rain for Saturday doesn't fall during our ride.

Prepare for some race pace efforts

See you tomorrow at 9am at Calhouns
